Illuminating Discovery Hub

Beyond the Lab

Beyond the Lab

The Illuminating Discovery Hub, headquartered at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery, reaches beyond the lab through partnerships with the outreach infrastructure of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation’s Town Center, the Morgridge Institute for Research, and other campus and national organizations to establish bridges among scientists, professional communicators, and members of the public. In collaboration with bioethicists, journalists, social scientists, media producers, and campus communicators, the Hub offers training programs in effective science communication, public discourse, and media representation. The Hub facilitates campus-wide, community, and national discussions about illuminating discovery, science and engineering research, the role of science and technology in society, and the image of scientists, engineers, and mathematicians.

The Illuminating Discovery Hub, like the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery’s other hubs, is new and still growing. We encourage you to join us in building a collaborative community.

Transforming the Image of Science & STEAM Access

The Illuminating Discovery Hub unites the skills and experiences of campus researchers and thought leaders to support diverse public stewardship of science – building an agile community of practice for impact beyond the lab designed for diverse audiences and STEAM stakeholders.
Unite

The ID Hub creates a nucleating presence on campus, fostering opportunities to network and build different kinds of societal and broader impacts activities with community.

Change

The complex, often negative, public perceptions of science cannot be changed in isolation. We utilize STEAM approaches to transform public representations of science and scientists.

Engage

Strengths in science skills, policy, community programming, technology commercialization and STEAM fusion enable the ID Hub to innovate inclusive science access and engagement.

Inspire

In collaboration with community across campus, the state and nation – the ID hub inspires through STEAM by seeding community experiences with valuable and creative science access.

Partners & Programs

The Illuminating Discovery Hub is connected to programming from across the UW–Madison campus and beyond. These key partnerships enable the Hub to bring curiosity, engagement, and discovery beyond the lab.
