Project Overview
The mural intends to highlight regenerative agriculture sciences, the chemistry of distilling, the contributions of female distillers, and the Wisconsin farm landscapes. It will be designed by the selected artist(s) in collaboration with the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery (WID), UW-Madison, State Line Distillery, and other designated scientists. The mural’s title will be decided and agreed upon later.
Science to Street Art murals creatively blend public art with scientific education, promoting science literacy through a fusion of science and art. This initiative is a partnership between WID’s Illuminating Discovery Hub, Science to Street Art, and State Line Distillery.
Artist Selection Process
The Science to Street Art review committee, comprising UW–Madison researchers, artists, and community stakeholders, will select a local artist or group of artists. The chosen artist will collaborate with the panel to finalize the mural concept, with scientists providing subject matter expertise.
The mural process will begin on July 20, 2024, and is to be completed by September 30, 2024. The mural unveiling and celebration event will coincide with the Wisconsin Science Festival (WSF), held from October 14-20, 2024. This year’s WSF theme is Agriculture! Learn more at wisconsinsciencefest.org.
The mural will be created in a street art style and designed to be suitable for K-12 students and the general public. A finalized mural draft will be approved by the Science to Street Art committee, which will provide feedback and consent before installation.
